Meet the Best of the Best in Ohio: Tausha Schneider

Tausha and Ted

We’ve got one top local talent who can really make the big time. This local amateur is a top hand that’s been on countless great horses with a list of wins a mile long. We’re lucky to have Tausha Scheider in The Best of the Best in Ohio Barrel Race, as well as another team that Tausha has touched, Macie Davidson and Tuff

Tell us about the horse you’ll be running in The Best of the Best in Ohio Barrel Race. (Name, bloodlines, style, age, owner, any other fun details.)

I will be running War Bug Meyers a.k.a. Ted. He is out of Three Bar Meyers a.k.a. Tuff, (which is out of the famous War Bar Meyers) which is also running at the Best of the Best in Ohio with Macie Davidson aboard, Tuff has been a great money winner for our family and for the Davidson family.

Ted is also out of a mare we owned Golden Straw Lady that was also a good money earner for our family. She went back to Lady Bug Moon. Ted was born on our farm in September–he was a late baby and a great surprise. Ted is turning 10 this month then will be 11 the first of year if you follow AQHA rules with age.

My mom Joanne Schneider trained all of the horses mentioned and all turned out with flying colors. Ted was  late on his training and actually didn’t get to run until late his 5-year-old year. Mom was also scared he wasn’t going to run due to he was a very lazy horse. Ted’s style tends to change with however he goes into the pen and also depending on how the ground is at the present run. So needless to say I will say he has a Schneider-style turn: fast, quick and unpredictable so you just drive, point him to where he needs to go, and hang on for the ride. Ted has both his mom’s and his dad’s turning style.

What is the biggest race this horse has won?

Ted has been a very consistent 1-D horse, I am very proud to have such a great horse to ride. We haven’t been able to haul to many of the big shows, but when we go he is almost always in the 1D with a good trip.

What is your biggest win as a barrel racer?

I have been very lucky to have gotten to sit on so many great horses: Miss Sugar Bandy which was 56 inches tall and won the Youth Poles at Quarter Horse Congress, then a couple years later to go back and run a consistent 20.2 in the Pole Sweepstakes and ended up 5th in the average. Golden Straw Lady always placed in the top of the youth and open, and was a multiple prize winner for Penn-Ohio and other clubs. Three Bar Meyers is an awesome 1D barrel horse with multiple arena records, many prizes and lots of money won on him. War Bug Meyers won countless prizes, won or placed at rodeos and so much more. All these horses carry a special place in my heart with so many great memories.

Have you ever run at the WB Ranch before? (If so, what did you think of the facility and the ground, and how did your horses work there?)

Yes I have ran at WB and I love it there, great footing, long runs which is a plus for Ted. Ted has worked really well at WB he has ran a 16.3 and got a 2nd place, also he ran a 16.111 and barely tipped the first barrel coming out. Everything about WB is great, except for it being 3 hours away.

Tell us one little-known fact about you or your horse.

Ted loves to open doors, so if you don’t latch the door he will probably be out and about in the barn, even if you are in the stall messing with him you better lock the door.

This race is all about charity – What’s the biggest cause you believe in and why?

I am for all charities, they are all great in there own way. My Charity is MS because my younger sister found out she had it when she was 18, she is now 28 and doing well she has a handsome boy and a beautiful baby girl.

  1. Good luck Tausha!! Pappy Miller is looking down on all of you and he is SOOOOO proud of all the great horses “his” girls have put out!

  2. Awe mari.. you have brought tears to my eyes. Pappy miller is the reason we are who we are today, he was an awesome man that dedicated his time to be with us, not to mention horses trucks trailers. Its been many years since his passing but he is missed the same every day. Wish that all were able to know him, but the lucky ones know they were blessed. May he be with me every time I mount a horse love you grandpa (pappy miller).

  3. Tausha– you have one of the best interviews here! You obviously put a lot of time and thought into your interview. Thanks for always sharing great ideas with Mason and me. You are a wonderful trainer and competitor and I’m happy to call you my friend. Good luck this weekend!!!

  4. Pappy is with you every time you mount a horse, along with your mom and your sisters. I was very lucky to know him, I was young but I remember him well and I consider myself blessed to have known so many of the “great” old timers and its incredible to see all of their kids and grandkids following in this great sport of barrel racing !!!! Its definitely a family affair for most!!
