Best of the Best in Ohio Qualifier: Tana Hall

We’ve got some new horse/rider combos in the race that just formed this year, that will be going up against some folks who have been on their horses for years. We’ll see who will prevail in this year’s Best of the Best!

Tell us about your horse.

Sugar, her registered name is Ox Sonechos Flicka, and she’s a 10-year-old mare. She’s a daughter of Sonechos Bar out of a Sunfrost mare. I purchased her four months ago from Ralph Bicknell.

What is your horse’s biggest win this year and of all time?

This year she started out consistent, not winning but placing in the top five at the first few shows I hauled her to. Ralph never really hauled to big shows, but I do know she was reserve champion in the senior 1D at the NBHA state show last year and 1D champion in the district. Also got back and placed at the North American Livestock Show.

What is your ultimate goal in barrel racing?

Ultimate goal:  Don’t really have a particular goal set. However, I would like to “make” my own 1D barrel horse and have good success.

What saddle do you ride?

Martin – Sherry Cervi.

What bit is in your horse’s mouth?

Custom made bit from Dutton. It actually belongs to Liz Purvis, it has a 4 1/2-inch mouth with copper through the twist or D L Slip shank.

What supplements do you feed?

Adequan, MSM, Healthy Coat.

What can’t you leave home without?

My little boy Lane, who is ALWAYS with me. (and I wouldn’t have it any other way!)

To whom do you owe your barrel racing success?

Success owed to:   Well I wouldn’t be into barrel racing if it wasn’t for Bobby Hamilton… My dad always hauled me and supported me when I was younger.  And now days its definitely my husband.  Without Steve, I’d be lost!! He does so much for me and keeps me in check and focused.

Tell us one fun fact about you or your horse.

Sugar thinks she’s an acrobat, when you turn her out everyday, she runs and twists and flips in ways horses shouldn’t move. I’ve never seen nothing like it. And me,.. I’d have to say people would get a laugh out of knowing that I’m the librarian at Lane’s elementary school.

What charity is closest to your heart?
